Welcome to the

Kodály Society of Nova Scotia!

The Kodály Society of Nova Scotia exists on the unceded and ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq L’nu. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik L’nu first signed with the British Crown in 1725.

Although the Kodály Society of Nova Scotia was formed in 1991, it was built upon the sturdy foundation that was nurtured by Hungarian trained music educators in the Halifax (Kjipuktuk) school system going as far back as the 1970’s. Indeed, among the first English-language schools in Canada to implement Kodály’s ideas on a school-wide basis were in those in Halifax (Kjipuktuk). In part, it was in response to a desire to share this foundation with music programs outside of urban centres that the Kodály Society of Nova Scotia was born, under the direction of longtime music educator, consultant, choral director, and tireless advocate, Kaye Pottie.

KSNS continues today as the grateful recipient of the passion for quality music education based on the ideals of Zoltan Kodály by founding executive members such as Riet Vink, Malcolm Bradley, Joyce Pierce, as well as many others who have since followed in their footsteps. KSNS aligns its vision and beliefs along with those of our national affiliate, the Kodály Society of Canada, including that of the Statement of Solidarity and Commitment

The biggest strength of KSNS remains the dedicated current executive who strive to provide a welcoming and relevant place for fellow music educators to share and grow together! For more information or to join us, please see the Contact Us and Membership buttons below.
